Climate Week NYC, in partnership with the UN General Assembly, is wrapping up. This past week, over 1,000 global leaders gathered to address climate challenges. Conservation organizations such as BirdLife International and National Audubon Society were advocating on behalf of birds. As birdwatchers, we witness the decline in bird populations firsthand, and we can help on a local level by educating others about the natural world and building support for conservation.

Sharing the joy and wonder of migratory birds and their journeys with people we know who might not have had the chance to experience migration firsthand can have profound effects. This Summer Tanager enjoying bananas at a feeder while overwintering in Colombia is an example of the way birds connect us. Take friends birdwatching, talk to your neighbors and give them insights into migration – which is certainly one of the great miracles of nature. Let them experience it with you through your eyes. Education is a big step in healing the planet and keeping it safe for all life – and its something we can all have fun doing!
