These gentle, slow moving mammals also known as "sea cows" has another endangered species as its closest relative - the elephant! They eat only plants, have no natural enemies and they can live up to 60 years. If you have a boat in a manatee area, please take care to move slowly and watch for manatees who often spend time just below the surface and are easily hit by fast moving motor boats.
