Bobcat
Lynx rufus

Wallpaper Description
Sporting the short tail which gives them their name, Bobcats were once found throughout North America from northern Mexico to southern Canada. Their beautiful fur was highly valued for coats, and populations were decimated in many states by trappers and hunters until the 1970's, when international laws protecting spotted cats came into effect. Now protected, their numbers are more stable, but their wild status is still considered threatened due to illegal hunting and loss of habitat. These cats look similar to the larger lynx with tufts of fur on their ears, and they are quick and excellent hunters. They have to be - their favorite meal is rabbit.
