Appropriately named, the American Goldfinch is a beautiful small bright yellow bird found throughout North America. Particularly find of thistles and milkweed, when the seeds become abundant in the summertime, goldfinches can be found covering these flowers as they eat the seeds. They also time their breeding season to the availability of abundant seeds which occurs later in the summer.  As a result, goldfinches are some of the latest nesting birds.  A great way to attract these birds to your backyard is with a thistle feeder.
