Herding Dog
Canis lupus familiaris

If you hear the words “come-bye”, ‘look back” or “that’ll do” chances are you listening to a farmer and his herding dog working with sheep or other animals on the farm. Some Herding dogs have been trained to identify whistles or hand signals for each command. Many Herding dogs control other animals by nipping at their heels. Others get in front of the animals and give them a strong eye so that they know who is boss! Herding dogs are both beautiful and intelligent, but they have to be kept active to be happy. They have been bred to herd just about everything, so if you have one of these breeds at home, you may get your heels nipped as your dog tries to herd everyone together. And why not…after all, it’s her job!
