Yellow Headed Amazon Parrot
Amazona oratrix

Native to Belize, Guatemala and Mexico, this beautiful stocky green parrot with a yellow head is a great talker and therefore a very popular pet. This popularity as a wild pet, along with huge declines in their habitat have caused a 90% drop in their numbers in the 15 years leading up to 1994 and an additional 68% drop in their populations since then. They are a very endangered species in the wild and no trade in them is legal, even though many are stolen illegally from their nests each year.
