Eumetopias jubatu
Description
In 1990 the Steller Sea Lion reached endangered status in Alaska and is threatened throughout the western coast line into California. Tan in color, males grow to be 12 feet in length, weigh over a ton and live predominantly on offshore rocks which make rescue attempts extremely difficult. The reason for decline in Steller Sea Lions is not known, but scientists believe it may be linked to the decline of fish due to commercial fishing.
