If you are in the Southwest US on a cold sunny day, you may find a small stack of these little doves doing an avian acrobatic feat known as "pyramid roosting" with some doves standing on the backs of others in several layers! They are not training for the circus...they just are trying to stay warm. This evocative call of theirs is a good reminder of this unusual little dove.
