Description
Originally known as the Common Gallinule in the US, and the Moorhen in Europe, this waterbird which is a member of the rail family, can be found on most continents except for Antarctica and Australia. With a brightly colored beak and large feet that enable it to walk on matted vegetation in the water, these conspicuous birds can be found in marshy fresh and brackish water areas looking for grass seeds and the odd snail, and often making this distinctive call.
