Callipepla California
Description
The plaintive call of this medium sized quail found in the Western US and through Baja, can be heard in the chaparral and other brushy areas. Sometimes found in coveys or convoys of over 70 birds, they are fairly commonly seen and are also found in parks and suburban areas. Sometimes several pairs combine their broods together and then all the parents of these offspring care for the babies together. It appears they have hit on a good idea, as that this kind of behavior promotes longer life for the quail who participate.
