Description
Under the right conditions, the caterpillar of the Zebra Longwing can become a butterfly in about three weeks. They are the state butterfly of Florida, can be found in the southern US, Central, and northern South America, and lays eggs on the leaves of passion fruit vines. There the caterpillars hatch and eat the toxic leaves which gives the caterpillars a terrible taste helping to keep them safe from predators.
