Wild Horse
Equus

Description
Horses can live 25 years and live in small herds in the wild. In these wild herds, like elephants, the females decide where the herd should go and the males follow. This wild horse is one of roughly 30,000 wild horses left in the US. A beloved symbol of the Wild West, the populations of these free running animals are down from nearly 60,000 as many farmers believe they compete for public grazing land which the farmers use for third own privately owned cattle. In 1971 the Wild Free-Roaming Horse and Burro Act gave federal protection to wild horses, but the US government has a controversial program of capturing and selling wild horses to private owners for domestication. Nearly a quarter of these captured horses never find homes - the lucky ones go to sanctuaries, the others may be sold for meat. There are lots of different opinion about what should be done....what do you think?
