Beaver
Castor canadensis

At over 40 pounds Beavers are the largest rodents in North America and have waterproof fur. This comes in handy since to keep their homes safe from predators, they are built with an underwater entrance. Beavers mate for life and live in small family groups called colonies in the lodges they build. They are known for their dam building which they do to ensure there is enough water to keep the entrance to their lodge submerged.
