Connochaetes taurinus
Description
Did you know wildebeest are also known as gnus? They are the largest migratory animal and make famous 500-1000 mile migrations across the plains of Africa in search of water and food. With more people moving into their migratory paths who put up fencing, these sweeping migrations are dwindling. Calves are all born within the same 2-3 week period so predators are overwhelmed with choice - making it easier for a larger number of calves to survive. This sound is a familiar one on the African savannahs during migration.
