Cyanocitta cristada
Description
This gregarious and beautiful jay is common at feeders in the Eastern and Midwest US, but is enlarging its territory west. It makes a wide range of sounds and sometimes mimics the call of hawks. Is it warning other jays that a hawk is present or tricking other birds into thinking one is there? What a clever bird!
