This baby chimpanzee is a native of the forests of equatorial Africa. Chimps are great apes and share 99% of our DNA. They live in tight social groups and this baby would be taken care of by her mother for many years. Chimpanzees are also efficient tool makers and hunters, are highly intelligent and have shown they can communicate with humans using sign language. Chimpanzees are an endangered species due to habitat destruction and the bush meat trade.
